Global LED lighting market value reached JPY1.7 trillion (US$48.7 billion) in 2014, accounting for 28.9% of total lighting value, and will increase to JPY5.5 trillion in 2020, with the corresponding market value proportion to rise to 58%, according to Japan-based research firm Fuji Kenzai,.

Main Japan-based LED lighting vendors, including Hitachi Appliance, Toshiba Lighting, Iris Ohyama and Rohm Semiconductor, have been actively developing new products, Fuji Kenzai said.

Hitachi Appliance has developed an LED ceiling lamp featuring brightness of 8,000 lumens, low power consumption and even distribution of light in a large room.

Toshiba Lighting has developed dimmable LED light bulbs using GaN-based power components to replace Si-based ones to reduce power consumption and enhance dimming function.

Iris Ohyama has developed LED light tubes with luminous efficiency of 190lm/W, while Rohm Semiconductor has also offered 190lm/W LED lighting products.

Pioneer has cooperated with Shisedo to develop cosmetic OLED lighting devices specifically for make-up rooms.
